We received many applications and made the cut to the 8 students that will represent Berkeley in the 2026 Berkeley-Sakai Student Exchange. The students started monthly meetings in September, 2025 to cover history, culture, food, language, and other aspects of Japanese life so they can excel as our ambassadors. The trip will take place in July, 2026.

2026 EXCHANGE - Berkeley Students Visit Sakai.
The Berkeley-Sakai Association is making arrangements for 8 students and 2 chaperones to travel to Sakai, Japan for about 10-12 days during the summer of 2026 (end of July), with possible side trips to Kyoto, Nara and/or Tokyo. Berkeley students will stay with host families in Sakai and in hotels when visiting other cities overnight. They will make a group presentation in Sakai (to be organized by student participants), and will hopefully also be able to host a Sakai student the following year.
