"1992 Student Exchange

July 20, 1992, we were headed for one of our life's most exciting experiences, as we boarded JAL 001 for Narita.  We were all anticipating a wonderful time, but were, nevertheless, a little anxious as we entered Japan (the first time for 6 of our 7 students).  Our whirlwind tour of the Tokyo area (Nikko, Hakone, and Mt. Fuji) was great!  Everyone was a little nervous as we approached Osaka on the Shinkansen (Bullet Train).   We found our hosts waiting for us at the large train station.  What a marvelous 2 weeks we spent in Sakai, making new friends, renewing old acquaintances, and learning the culture and customs of Japan.  We also got to do more sightseeing: Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Miyajima.  It was truly a memorable and very grand trip.  We were treated first class all the way by our host families and the Sakai Rotary.  Our only wish was that more students could have experienced this exchange.  We regret that after 25 years, this was the last of this type of student exchange with Sakai.  Our board and Sakai's will be exploring new ideas and formats for future exchanges. Joan Fujita"
